Experiences of stigma among Nepalese migrants in Japan amid COVID-19

Dr. Sudeepa Abeysinghe is collaborating on a multi-country project, led by Ms. Divya Bhandari (The University of Tokyo) along with Dr. Tetsuya Tanimoto (Medical Governance Research Institute, Japan), Dr. Akihiko Ozaki   (Fukushima Jyoban Hospital of Tokiwa Foundation) and Prof.Yushiro Kotera (University of Debry, UK). Bringing together colleagues from Nepal, Japan, and the UK, this project engages in qualitative interviews of Nepalese migrants in Japan to access their unique experiences and to understand in particular the stigmatisation and discrimination faced by this community. In doing so, the project aims to link the community to more appropriate support services and make community voices better heard in the context of Japan’s response to COVID-19.
